September 28-30, 2026
This free, three-day training will offer an in-depth exploration of suicide using SHARES on Suicide, a relationship-centered framework for understanding and responding to people who are struggling with suicidal thoughts. The framework reflects a lived-experience-informed, harm reduction approach to suicide.
This interactive training will ask participants to reflect on what they bring to the conversation and what it means to say that suicide is a social justice issue, and then learn what to do with that. Topics will include:
- What harm reduction looks like in the context of suicide
- Understanding the relationship between self-injury and suicide
- What the research tells us about what really works
- The role of power (and loss of power) in living or dying
- Strategies for supporting one another without relying on carceral systems
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will be able to explain what the SHARES acronym stands for and what each piece means.
- Participants will be able to identify at least three strategies for sharing power when supporting someone who is suicidal.
- Participants will be able to identify at least three ways in which current conventional clinical wisdom may be counterproductive to supporting people who are suicidal.
Dates:
- September 28: 9am to 11am
- September 29: 9am to 5pm
- September 30: 9am to 5pm
