Ethics in Spiritual Care: Case Studies from a Chaplain

February 27, 2024 -

Rebecca L. Young
Staff Chaplain at UPMC Mercy and
Minster of Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church

Abstract: Rev. Young will discuss ethical concerns that arise when caring for the emotional and spiritual needs of patients and families. She will consider how supporting a patient's loved one is also a way to support the patient, and what it looks like to advocate for the needs and care of those who are not patients. She will then explore the ethical considerations when a patient's family makes decisions guided by their religious beliefs that lead them to be at odds with a patient's care team.
