Burden of Genius

April 12, 2019 (All day) to April 18, 2019 (All day)

This film tells the story of legendary transplant pioneer Dr. Thomas E. Starzl.

Considered the “father of transplantation,” Starzl performed the world’s first successful liver transplant in 1967. He came to the University of Pittsburgh in 1981, and perfected what was then still considered an experimental procedure. He helped begin the transformation of Pittsburgh from a Steel City into the “meds and eds” city that it is today. Burden of Genius won Best Documentary prizes at the Cleveland International Film Festival and the Raw Science Film Festival in Los Angeles.
