Ritu Thamman, MD, is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and is on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE). She is a working member of the Disparities of Care Task Force of the American College of Cardiology and a member of the writing committee for the 2021 American College of Cardiology Disparities of Care Guidelines.  She is also a committee member developing the 2020 ASE Burnout Prevention Guidelines. A member of the ACC Women in Cardiology Leadership Council, she started the Pennsylvania chapter of Women in Cardiology. She is the chair of the Echocardiography Twitter Journal club, a formal journal club on Twitter for which she has developed continuing medical education credit. In private practice in Pittsburgh for more than a decade, Dr. Thamman joined the University of Pittsburgh’s Department of Cardiology as an echocardiographer and educator.  She teaches medical students about writing and medicine and has discussed the intersection of the heart and the humanities on panels in local and national forums. She is writing As the Heart Knows, a collection of patient stories and cardiac images.
