Abstract: The misery of medical malpractice litigation for all involved has led some hospitals to develop alternative ways to resolve medical injuries with patients. Disclosing errors and proactively offering compensation is one promising approach, but patients’ experiences with such reconciliation processes are not well understood. Drawing on more than 120 interviews in two countries, this presentation will communicate what patients and family members believe hospitals can do to make their response to medical injuries more patient centered.
