Abstract: In this talk Dr. Goldberg will review how mood disorders, particularly Bipolar Disorder, have been understood, diagnosed, and treated in the 20th and 21st centuries. It will reflect on how creative individuals, such as artists, are somewhat overrepresented among those with Bipolar Disorder and how various treatments may affect their creativity. Then, Dr. Goldberg will engage in conversation to discuss the interplay of Bipolar Disorder, genetics, situational factors or triggers, and methods and medications people use to soothe their symptoms.
