During this session we will explore the moral relevance of personal responsibility for health and discuss common ethical arguments for using personal responsiblity for health as a criteria for allocating resources.  We will discuss appropriateness of, and strategies for, incorporating personal responsibility into health policies and different methods for motivating people to take greater responsibility for their health and the fairness of desert-based policies in light of broader social inequalities and determinants of health.

During this session, we will examine current ethical & patient safety concerns related to advance directives and advance medical orders (POLST) that lead to patient harm related to over & under resuscitation.  Develop an institutional safety platform around these instruments for improved patient care centered on the principals of medical ethics; and learn how patient to clinician video testimonial might increase patient safety and more closely ensure respect for autonomy by ensuring the correct treatment choice.
