Abstract: Artificial intelligence has emerged as a promising technology in healthcare. Because AI seems to rely more on data than on human judgment, it holds the promise of reducing the influence of subjective bias and helping to address healthcare disparities. Due to the fragmented nature of the healthcare system and various issues affecting health data collection, AI can nevertheless introduce implicit algorithmic bias and worsen healthcare disparities. Thus, it is a double-edged sword.
